I believe, as my fellow students would probably agree, this has been an extremely busy week with trying to finish all required assignments, thus causing it to be harder to finish the teach assignment. I have learned so much since starting this course. I can actually log on to my blog and know where to go to create a page or new blog. I have tried and almost have the correct process down for embedding links in my documents, which will surely come in handy as I go throug my college days as well as my professional career. For these and other milestones I wish to thank you!

Week 9

OK, I think I have learned just how much I don’t really like to use technology. I am really struggling in trying to find a topic for my teach project. This being one week into the assignment I really need to figure something out. Needless to say, I haven’t really found something that spurs my creative juices, but I am determined and will come up with something.

Doing the Financial project was a BIG challenge for me. I have never had so many different steps to do anything that technical in my life, I just hope that it turned out good. Now on to the Teaching project.

I was trying to come up with a list of possible topics for this

1. Knitting – casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, casting off.

2. How to track income and expenses for a business (daycare).

3. How to potty train a child.

4. How to make “hand print” gifts for parents.

Week 7

I have finally decided on what I will be doing my Finanical Dream on. For years now my husband and I have thought of purchasing a decent size motorhome and taking a year long trip across country to see the nation and talk to people from different walks of life. This would also include the four youngest of our children to come with us and would have to include educational activities and home schooling them. We feel that this would be a huge educational experience for them and they would learn more than just the typical public education.

Week 6 – Financial Ideas

Well, I have accomplished a lot of my dreams so far: married, have children, bought vehicles, purchasing a home… I am at a loss as to what dreams I have. These are what I was able to come up with: Go on a month long cruise with my whole family, that is 9 of us. Travel to the Holy Lands with my entire family. Pay for all seven of my children’s education. I think that is all I can think of …. I will probably choose between the first two, unless something spurs my creative juices between now and when I have to decide.

Week 6 Experience

I have been really busy with personal issues, but feel that I have truly learned a few new skills. Yes, it did take a lot of redoing tasks, because I failed to do them correctly the first time, but that is the way that I usually learn. I was very frustrated when trying to imbed the different links for the resources that I found, I may have even lost some of the information, but feel real good about the end product. Perhaps it would have been easier if I had chosen a different woman inventor, with more information available, but I really was impressed with Sybilla and the challenges that she was able to overcome as well as her husband that assisted her in her goals. As to how hard it was to attach graphics and pictures it was surprisingly easy and I really enjoyed something new being easy to do!

Week 5

Ok, I admit it I did not like this what-so-ever. Maybe it is due to the fact that this week I have had to deal with a lot of personal issues such as: my mother who is almost 80 years old decided to accidently hurt herself and no one else could assist her, due to their various schedules, so that left me. Then my nephew and niece who were 8 1/2 months pregnant find out that their little boy has passed away even before he was born! Then it was decided that since I was taking care of our mother that I might as well take care of their 18month old daughter so that they didn’t have her under foot. So yes I have had numerous challenges this week which have caused me to fall far behind. Not to mention the fact that this is totally new territory and had a hard time understanding even the simplest directions. I know that this is late, but it is at least completed (I hope) up to this point.

Just thought that I would add that while doing continued research on Sybilla, my blog came up! Just thought that was kind of weird, but cool at the same time. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced such an event.

Research on Sybilla Masters

First, I must apologize I thought I had already done this, but I guess I was wrong.

I sent Ms Jane Nichols a chat on-line regarding my culture project on Sybilla Masters and asked her for assistance in obtaining information on her. I was extremely impressed and grateful on the information and links that she sent back to me. Most of the information is repetitive, which I expected, but some of the links/information was very helpful. By having fresh eyes and of course experience, it helped me to think of other ways to try to obtain the information such as putting in different phrases such as: “corn shelling”, “Masters invention”, and “Invention corn”. Ms Nichols also helped me to slow down and read a lot of information that was included in the articles/documents to see if there was any linking material that the author drew data from. I would like to thank her for her assistance.

The only issues that I had was trying to obtain information from JSTOR, probably due to the fact that it was a new site and had a hard time accessing the desired documents/articles.

Week 3

As I am starting to really research the internet I am finding myself becoming very frustrated at my lack of progress for the amount of time that I seem to be putting into it. I wish sometimes that I could go to a library with all the information that I need and actually “touch” the information that I am desperately seeking. Unfortunately, that is not even close to a possiblitiy due to the fact that there is no one “place” that can hold even half of the information that seems to be available on-line. I am extremely impressed with the different women inventors that have made any contribution to the advancement of women and technology.

There is one statistic that really sticks out in my mind during all my surfing the internet and that is the fact that in 1988 there was only 10% of all patent seekers were women. That just blows me away. We still have such a long way to go to decrease the gender gap in society.
